Mobility of the future – cleverly thought through
Many companies are currently focusing on innovative mobility concepts. But researchers from ISOE have found that these concepts often aren’t thought through. Foresightful and viable solutions are the topic of the conference „Sustainable Mobility – The Future“ on Tuesday, May 22nd 2012 at the Frankfurt Global Business Week.
As in previous years, ISOE will again be a partner of the Global Business Week which is being organised by the Maleki Group from May 21st to 25th in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Among other things, ISOE will play a significant role in the conference on „Sustainable Mobility – The Future“ with two experts on mobility, Dr. Jutta Deffner and Dr. Konrad Götz.
„Questions about what the future of our urban mobility culture might look like are more prevalent than ever before,” says Dr. Jutta Deffner, head of the research unit Mobility and Urban Spaces at ISOE. Innovative technologies, the trend towards renewable energy and a general turnaround in thinking are opening up new perspectives. „I’m pleased that the automotive industry has embraced new concepts of mobility, albeit rather late, but the concepts born from them need to be better thought through,“ Deffner emphasises.
This opinion is shared by Dr. Konrad Götz, researcher on mobility and social life at ISOE. „I’m very happy that car sharing is finally becoming really popular, but we have to think further. It’s going to be all about linking that concept with other modes of transportation,” he says, referring to car sharing station in urban areas. For example, car sharing schemes in the inner city should also include secure parking spaces for the bicycles of car sharing users.
In any case, the researchers at ISOE don’t see the future of mobility as being “the” one single solution. „Rather, the key will be a mixture of different solutions that need to be intelligently combined and coordinated with foresight. The pilot projects that are starting now need to be viable on all levels,“ says Jutta Deffner.
