Bycicle promotion does not only consist of building bicycle tracks or putting up signposts. Further more it needs communication and image rising measures. But budgets for this task are mostly not available and planners are no marketing experts. The EU funded project MOVILIZATION made it therefore possible for cities in Brazil, Columbia, Ecuador, Germany, the Netherlands and Nicaragua to realise professional communication activities for promoting bicycle use and to get scientific attendance.
The realisation of publicity relevant measures focused on image rising of cycling, road safety campaigns as well as on better information on cycling routes and parking facilities. In addition campaigns for road safety education were conducted and simple and low cost infrastructure measures (e.g. completion of cycling routes) which were attended by communication measures. In the final stage of the projects these activities are being evaluated and compiled in a toolbox for other practitioners. The toolbox is designed as an online medium, with open access like Wikipedia. It will be expanded by the project network gradually. Therefore the member cities will be supported by the external partners (IBS, University of Stuttgart, ISOE). Read more about the project and its history.
