As a transdisciplinary social-ecological research institute ISOE’s research and consultant work aims above all at enhancing society’s decision making capacity and its options for action. Therefore it seeks to increase the usefulness of its research results for actors in various and very different arenas of action and within very different publics.
The researchers working at ISOE come from numerous disciplines, encompassing a wide range of skills and qualifications – from sociology to biology, from nutritional science to economics and physics.
The work done within ISOE’s Focuses of Research yield a wide spectrum of scientific results which stand available to all our research contract partners.
Involvement in knowledge networks is extremely important for social-ecological research. Particularly important is the long-term anchoring of social-ecological research within research and teaching at universities. Therefore the Institute puts special emphasis on developing course offerings for social ecology at university level and on training young researchers.
