Improving Energy-Efficient Refurbishment of Private Homes
On behalf of the German Energy Agency, the team developed a conceptual basis with which to promote the energy-efficient modernisation of detached and semi-detached houses.
Research approach
The project took an integrated approach. This involved the further development of regulatory measures, the optimisation of funding programmes, and the development of a communication strategy for the owner-occupied sector.
In a preliminary study, ISOE investigated the needs of property owners living in detached and semi-detached houses. To this end, scientists conducted a study of the literature and a secondary evaluation of social-empirical surveys.
The preliminary study improved understanding of demand-side requirements when it came to fleshing out funding programmes. In addition, it provided pointers for the evaluation of funding instruments as well as initial clues for designing supplementary communication and marketing strategies.
Beyond this, the study supplied hypotheses for a projected main empirical study to examine the attitudes and needs of owner occupiers.
