Green Talents visit ISOE

On October 26, 2018, ISOE – Institute for Social-Ecological Research once again hosted the annual Green Talents Forum. Every year, the “Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” honours 25 young international scientists working in sustainability research. The aim of the forum is to intensify international cooperation within the realm of sustainability research. The competition is organised and carried out by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) on behalf of the BMBF.

The winners of the competition were invited to Germany for a two-week research stay. During these two weeks, the participants were visiting research institutions with the aim of gaining an overview of sustainability research in Germany, its structure and financing as well as important institutions in this field. “We see it as an important task to carry our research results into science and society and to build research networks both nationally and internationally. We were therefore very pleased that ISOE had once again been chosen to host the Green Talents Forum,” says Dr. Thomas Jahn, spokesman of the ISOE executive board and scientific director.

ISOE scientists presented selected national and international research projects at a world café, including the MORE STEP research project, which investigates the sustainable development of the Mongolian steppe ecosystem. In her introduction, Dr. Martina Winker, member of the institute’s executive board, gave an overview of the research topics of ISOE, which today is one of the leading institutes for sustainability research in Germany. She also presented the ISOE research programme “Frankfurt Social Ecology”. Subsequently, Dr. Alexandra Lux gave a lecture on “Transdisciplinarity in the Practice of Research”.

All in all, it was as a successful visit and we were particularly happy to hear from the young scientists that the speeches were very favorably received.
