Mobility and Urban Spaces

Traffic flows are increasing – which means an increase in familiar negative consequences of traffic for society and the environment. But it is not just transport and mobility that manifest non-sustainable dynamics; different forms of urban settlement are also an issue. ISOE develops socio-ecological design concepts by asking how traffic can be reduced while still serving the basic need for mobility, and exploring possible forms of sustainable urban development and land use. Special attention is paid to the social and socio-cultural dimension of technological and social innovations. Empirical social research methods and the social-ecological lifestyle concept play an important role – for example in analysing traffic behaviour and mobility, or with respect to the quality of stay in urban areas.
