Postdoctoral Position in Social-Ecological Systems and Biodiversity

We seek a post-doctoral researcher whose work bridges the natural and social sciences. The candidate will work on the topics of social-ecological dynamics of ecosystem services, the use of and access to ecosystem services, conflicts or resulting synergies, regulatory mechanisms or their effectiveness. We expect experience in quantitative and/or qualitative empirical social research. Knowledge of the scientific discourse on social-ecological systems and their application as well as of the critical discourses on ecosystem services and biodiversity values is of advantage. German language skills are obligatory.

This work will be combined with biodiversity data in collaboration with colleagues from the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (SBiK-F). The candidate is expected to work in close cooperation with SBiK-F. ISOE is a founding and cooperation partner of SBiK-F.

Position requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (Human Geography, Environmental Sciences, Political Sciences, or a related field). The PhD thesis must have been submitted before the application deadline.
  • Research experience in interdisciplinary working environments
  • Strong skills in quantitative and/or qualitative empirical social research (e.g. semi-structured interviews, workshops, survey design, statistical analysis, analysis of qualitative interviews)
  • Regular publication in leading international journals in the field of interdisciplinary research
  • Very good English and German language proficiency is mandatory
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary and benefits are equivalent to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13). The position will be full-time (100%) for 2 years. Part-time employment is possible.
