Consulting and Transfer

Science and art in dialogue

The collaboration between science and art offers immense potential to make complex sustainability topics accessible to a broader audience – not only on an intellectual level but also through sensory experience. In our transdisciplinary research, communication efforts, and knowledge transfer, we regularly partner with artists, art academies, and museums.

Artistic approaches help to communicate complex topics such as climate change or the loss of biodiversity in a way that creates an emotional connection, opens up new perspectives, and promotes creative and unconventional thinking. The dialogue between art and science therefore opens up a wide range of learning fields for transdisciplinary research practice as well as for ISOE's communication and transfer services.

Artistic research can also be part of transdisciplinary research processes. This collaboration offers great potential for shaping transformations toward sustainability. It creates spaces for experience and discovery that directly touch people and encourage them to reflect on their own actions. In this way, artistic interventions can help move from knowledge to action.

On the one hand, ISOE specifically incorporates artistic approaches into projects in order to stimulate communication and transfer, and thus social debate on sustainability issues. On the other hand, the concepts of transdisciplinary research also offer suitable frameworks for investigating the collaboration between artists, scientists, and social actors.
