The “Practices and Infrastructures” Hub investigates the interplay between practices and infrastructures with regard to shaping social-ecological transformations. Here, we focus on societal actors and their everyday practices, as well as on the socio-technical systems that condition them.
This approach is about the actors and their routines, motivations and interests, as well as the path dependencies and inertia in the transformation of energy-, resource- and land-intensive technologies and infrastructures that enable social practices.
The theoretical and conceptual development of this approach aims to add a shaping perspective to concepts of infrastructure. That way, we want to contribute to a better conceptual understanding of the interplay between infrastructures and practices. This opens up new possibilities for making the connection between institutions, knowledge and technologies in their capacity as shaping dimensions of social-ecological transformations accessible to empirical analysis, something we consider to be an important contribution.
