Nicola Schuldt-Baumgart has headed the Knowledge Communication and Knowledge Transfer division at ISOE since 2012. Her work focuses on the interfaces between science, society and politics. She develops strategies and formats that make scientific knowledge accessible, foster dialogue between research and practice, and enable knowledge to contribute to societal transformation processes. Her work combines approaches from science communication with perspectives from knowledge transfer and transdisciplinary research. Her areas of expertise include science communication in the context of misinformation and growing science scepticism, as well as climate and biodiversity communication. At ISOE, she is responsible for the institute’s strategic communication.

Before joining ISOE, she worked in corporate and brand communication, political consulting and as a freelance business journalist. She studied economics, German language and literature, and international economic relations at Philipps-Universität Marburg and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich and holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Marburg.

    The three-year research project aims to investigate what kind of knowledge needs and barriers exist among municipal decision-makers and how the latter can then be addressed by means of better knowledge transfer. The intention is to support climate adaptation in Hessian municipalities.

    Scientific coordination of the funding initiative „An environmentally and socially compatible transformation of the German energy system”

    Since 2013 a total of 33 collaborative research projects are dealing with various aspects of an “Environmentally and socially compatible transformation of the German energy system”. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has included this initiative into the funding priority Social-Ecological Research (SÖF) and has assigned the Öko-Institut together with the ISOE with the coordination of the funding initiative.
